I can't believe I haven't blogged since June 23! We have some very exciting news that has kept me busy (and sick). Mike and I are expecting another baby in early 2010. Between morning sickness (yeah right, more like all day sickness) and our busy shooting schedules, I've really neglected the blog. I'm very sorry! I promise to try to do better!
More updates coming soon. We shot some great clients in July so we will be posting their pics...we're just a little late!

We shot Brittany's senior pictures at the urban park in Houston. She is so gorgeous. She was a little shy at first, but it didn't take long before she loosened up and we got some great shots. We shot in the late afternoon so the light was perfect. Brittany told us that she wanted something different, not cookie-cutter, so we played with some new processing on her images also. Here are a few of my favorites.

Normally, on engagement sessions, we place the couple, walk to where we are going to shoot from and then turn around and ask them to kiss, cuddle, look at each other, etc. At Robert and Kim's session, when we turned around, they were already at it. They were the sweetest, most affectionate, loving couple I've ever worked with. They made our job so easy.

On Saturday May 16, motorcycle riders will come together to help raise awareness of breast cancer in our community. Bikers Against Breast Cancer, benefitting The Rose, a non-profit breast cancer organization, will start and end at San Jacinto Harley Davidson, 3636 E. Sam Houston Parkway S, Pasadena, TX 77505, with the party continuing at Hooters -Pasadena afterward.

Mike and I each have a list of 10 photos that we want to take before we die. We call them our "Ten Ultimate Photos." It's sort of a wish list, if you will.
It's also a competition to see who can complete their list first (I'm losing, by the way).

I finally got one of mine at an awesome engagement session on Sunday and I couldn't be more thrilled. We were wrapping up our session when we heard the train whistle and ran back over there. More from Robert and Kim's engagement session later, but for now...

I went to college with Jonathan's mother Katie and her sister Leah (we even lived together at one point...lots of stories, but I won't go there ;)). They are extraordinary people who are in the midst of a tragedy that I cannot even begin to comprehend.

Katie has nominated her mother, Merrell, in a "My Mother is Awesome" contest through Victoria's Secret. When Jonathan was diagnosed, Merrell left her job to be there for Katie and help her care for Jonathan...that is an awesome mother!

Meet the S Family

Jeff, Katie, big sister Paige and sweet Jonathan...

On April 3, 2008 this wonderful family's life changed forever. Jonathan was diagnosed with a brain tumor which they later found to be a rare and aggressive brain tumor called an atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, or AT/RT. This type of cancer occurs almost entirely in children and has had results in somewhere between 0 and 10% of children surviving.

Below is an excerpt from their CarePage, written by Jonathan's father, Jeff.
"In light of the very obvious and rapid worsening of Jonathan's condition, Katie and I have decided to stop treatment and enjoy what quality time we have left with him. We don't know if we have a week, a month, or longer, but we are certain that the best we can hope for with additional chemo is a zero sum result...we make him sick for two weeks to gain two weeks of time with him. We simply aren't prepared to let him suffer any longer.

We have known for the last twelve months that this day would come, but we resolved to push this day back as far as we could, and give him as much quality time as possible. We have always maintained hope and optimism that our son may be one of the lucky few, but we also were never arrogant enough to just assume that he would be. Katie and I believe that we have done everything possible to give him extra time to be happy, and it is now time to stop forcing him to fight. We are at peace with our decision, though it is certainly one of the most difficult we've had to make during this battle. "

We ask that you please keep Jonathan and his entire family in your thoughts and prayers as they head down the next path in this difficult journey.

We had the pleasure of photographing Kelli a couple of weeks ago. She was such a joy. Boudoir photography sessions are so much fun, especial when you have someone as easy to work with and open-minded as Kelli was.

Boudoir portraits are intimate and sensual. They are usually intended as a gift for a significant other. They can be as innocent or risque as you like. Generally, no nudity is involved, though this is up to the model's discretion. These portraits rely heavily on suggestion and subtly; often utilizing strategically placed props.

Boudoir photography is about setting, light, and angles. While some girls look good at certain angles and in certain light, height, size, shape, skin tone, hair, and even what they are sitting/laying on can determine can determine each different outcome. It's almost never the same from one model to the next.

Our sessions are very laid back and informal. Your comfort is our highest priority. You always call the shots. The more relaxed you are, them more your personality will shine through in the photographs...giving them that extra spark.

I owe my life to The Rose

I owe my life to The Rose. Not my physical life, the breaths and heartbeats, but the moments…the life that I've enjoyed in my years.

Without The Rose, and specifically, co-founders Dr. Dixie Melillo and Dorothy Weston Gibbons, the life in my years would have been very different.

My mother would not have been there to see me graduate from high school or to help me adjust my wedding dress and straighten my veil or to wipe my brow when I was in labor with her first grand daughter.

In 1990, Dr. Melillo, accompanied by Dorothy (as she always was), spoke at a Legal Assistant's luncheon. To them, I'm sure it was just another talk on just another weekday to just another group of women. To me, it means that I get to see the light in my daughter's eyes when I tell her that we're going to Nannie's house or that Nannie is going to come to her gymnastics class.

My mother's cancer, lobular carcinoma, would have never formed a lump. Had she not listened to Dr. Melillo's speech and learned that there are other signs of breast cancer, she would not have found her cancer until it was much too late. Breast cancer is usually very aggressive in young women. Hers had already spread to her lymph nodes. Even another 6 months would have probably been a death sentence.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at 38. She was too young for a mammogram, but not too young for breast cancer.

No one is ever too young. Know your body, do your self breast exams, and contact your doctor if there is a change. If you're over 40, get your annual screening. No ones knows your body like you do...Feel Your Boobies!

Trash the Dress...This isn't your momma's bridal session

We're organizing a group Trash the Dress Bridal Portrait Session on the beach in Galveston. We're talking...getting sandy, getting wet, having some fun and capturing some great images. Nothing too structured, just fun.

Anyone is welcome. Brides to be, recent brides, newlyweds...anyone who'd like some fun bridal portraits that reflect your personality. Husbands/fiances are welcome too!

There will be some down time because it is a group session. For this reason, sitting fees will be greatly reduced. You aren't obligated to buy any images. If you like them...great! If you don't and there aren't any images that you'd like to purchase, we'll refund your sitting fee.

Obviously, if you aren't married yet, I wouldn't wear the real dress. Buy a ivory dress from Macy's or e-bay or borrow your sister's dress (LOL)...once you put a veil on, anything can be a wedding dress! We've also got a few dresses that have been donated to the cause. They are available to be trashed on a first come, first serve basis. (if you need help finding something for the session, let us know. We'll be glad to see what we can do)

We've got veils you can borrow if you'd like to wear one and we'll bring an assortment of flowers to use as bouquets.

We haven't set the date for this yet. We've got a couple of balls up in the air, so we're waiting until the end of this week. We just wanted to put it out there and get a feel for who is interested.

How can two people who are so different be so compatible? We're not sure, but it works! We come from different backgrounds; have completely different styles and tastes; and work in completely different ways...but we compliment each other perfectly.

Hence...the title of our new blog. He said, She said. Most of the time, our opinions will be different, but that is what makes us a great team.
